Executive Psychotherapy for Opportunity Blindness

March 21, 2016adminExecutive Psychotherapy

For those people not familiar with the problem, Opportunity Blindness is experienced when a professional or executive is surrounded by opportunities, but because of their current mind-set, they are unable to see them. Executive Psychotherapy for Opportunity Blindness usually takes place as a small part of addressing a larger problem, which is creating the mind-set that causes opportunity blindness.

Opportunity Blindness can exist in the absence of a problem that requires executive psychotherapy in a professional or executive who is otherwise fully functioning.

For most people Opportunity Blindness can be a normal state, but for executives, who are responsible for leading staff to a better future, Opportunity Blindness can be career ending.

Would you want to employ an executive who could see no ways of improving your company? Unlikely, unless you wanted someone to maintain the status quo, with absolutely no changes (there are circumstances where that is desirable). For most employers, improvement capability is highly sought after, and the absence of it is an automatic block to hiring.

What causes Opportunity Blindness to emerge in an executive who previously had the capability? Normally one of the larger scale challenges that brings an executive to seek psychotherapy. That is, Opportunity Blindness, is often a symptom of a bigger issue, and can often reveal hidden conditions. For instance, before an executive realises s/he is depressed, there is often a marked reduction in opportunity awareness and thinking.

Catching an emerging performance challenge at that stage can prevent a much worse deterioration of capability, later on, and takes considerably less time to successfully address.

If you have experienced a drop of in your ability to see ways of improving your section, department or company,  a reduction in the number of possibilities for positive change, and, your role requires that capability, you may want to consider contacting Prof Nigel MacLennan for an appointment on Telephone Number
